Casual Notes for Casual Conversations from Nov. 29th

With the Thanksgiving holiday celebrated on the previous Thursday, and the host for “the last Saturday of the month at Fruta Café” off on an out-of-town journey (with Fruta closed) we posted signs of our move to URSA.

At 9AM sharp a young woman entered URSA and sat down to learn more about how conversations that can be held by all when you spot a listener with a topic that is of interest to each of you. The guest was an educated woman of color, interested in the types of books I was reading, and I told her about the recommendation by Library Board Chair Jim O’Donnell to the series of books written by Walter Mosely about LA and detective Rawlins. She noted the non-fiction recent book by Jonathan Karl called RETRIBUTION and chronicles the lead-up to the Trump second presidential term.

We discussed an overview of CCC attempting to stretch the understanding of engagement with neighbors and participating more fully in City governance, as in “See something. Say

something.”
