Latest News About Casual Civics Conversations - July 23, 2026 (John Marshall Lee)

A conversation, especially if it is informal or casual, happens when two or

more people have an opportunity to be in a safe comfortable location where

they can sit down, listen, and participate. My concern was that participation

in and comprehension of what Civics is all about is not understood. So, I

formed a concept of Casual Civics Conversations in the fall of 2024 with

the idea of having a location in each of ten Bridgeport Districts that meet

the above description. There are 7 hours per month scheduled within four

Districts at this moment though I shared the idea with the City Council at

several of their Public Speaking sessions in 2025 and 2026.

Two of these include a new concept, Porch Casual Civics Conversations.

When the weather cooperates, a porch can be an enjoyable place to relax

with other folks to learn about municipal facts and governance structure.

We are working on four other Districts at this moment. It is a part of lifetime

learning and a wonderful way to meet neighbors. It is a free activity and can

be personally rewarding. What is your experience with democratic

practices? Why not share your knowledge and opinions and your questions

also monthly, one hour at a time?

Time will tell.
